About us
Ellie started JAM Virtual Support as she knew she didn't want to use her law degree to qualify as a solicitor or barrister, but enjoyed the paralegal side of things and the flexibility that came from being a legal virtual assistant.
We work with consultant solicitors, barristers and law firms who require part-time, flexible legal support. Like a paralegal - only from the comfort of your own home, and theirs! This is a self-employed position, and is perfect for a student or post-graduate looking to gain valuable work experience or to learn more about alternative pathways from their degree.
The Position
We assist clients with a wide range of tasks, so you could be assisting with:

File opening via Leap and Clio

Issuing client care letters and carrying out AML/ID checks

Conflict checks
-
Legal research
-
Legal audio transcription
-
Drafting
-
Legal proofreading of documents such as terms and conditions, privacy policies, cookie policies and service agreements

Speaking with new enquiries over the phone

File closing
-
Legal and non-legal blog writing
-
Other general admin tasks such as email and diary management
HOURS OF WORK
Minimum commitment of 5 hours for the first month, with a high likelihood of increased hours if you're able to pick these up after month one.
COMPETETIVE PAY
We pay £25 per hour.
FLEXIBILITY
Flexible working hours to accommodate your study schedule – there’s unlikely to be a requirement for you to complete the work at a set time!
EQUIPMENT PROVIDED
We provide you with a laptop and ongoing support throughout.
The Small Print
Requirements

A law student or graduate

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Excellent communication skills

Excellent attention to detail and client care skills

Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality requirements
Desirable (but not essential!)

Experience as a paralegal or legal assistant is preferred

Other legal experience is also welcomed

Proficiency with Leap

Experience with Clio is a significant advantage
Details
This is a self-employed position, but don't worry, we will support you setting up (and we provide you with a laptop!) This includes:

Registering with the ICO (£35 fee for the year)

Must have professional indemnity insurance (roughly £7 per month with Policy Bee)
-
Must be comfortable managing your self-assessment tax return (annually)
